Todd's imaginary friend Mickey

Todd has an imaginary friend named Mickey Grey. It took me a while before I realized this Mickey fellow was part of his imagination. I never had an imaginary friend nor did any of my siblings. So, we go through out days listening to Todd talk about him and Mickey. He wanted to get Mickey a Christmas present. For a long time Mickey lived in the sun. I was able to use that as the excuse as to why we couldn't get Mickey a Christmas present. Mickey was having a party and Todd really wanted to go. I told him that I didn't know where Mickey lives. Todd said, "Oh, Mickey lives at 1021789". So to that I said, "Well, we didn't receive an invitation". Todd replied, "Oh, we don't need a piece of paper". Finally, I said, "Todd, I have to talk to Mickey's mom to see if it's okay". He didn't have a comment for that. Apparently we look alike also. We are both small, medium and short.

This past Monday Todd told me that Mickey died. He told me that he and Mickey were playing and something with Sonic the Hedgehog and then he cut his finger with a pair of scissors. He said he was sad and that he would never see Mickey again. There was my window of opportunity to share a piece of the gospel with Todd even if it was over an imaginary friend. I told him that he would be able to see Mickey again. He smiled and said, "I will!" We talked about Heavenly Father's plan. We had previously studied this because Todd was going to give a talk about it in Primary. I asked him what he needed to do. He said, "Be good, go to the temple, and not yell at our mommies". Good answers Todd! We talked about mommy and daddy being married in the Temple and what that meant for us as a family. Todd felt great. He was smiling. I am grateful for the Spirit that prompted me to talk to Todd. I too am grateful for Heavenly Father's plan.

P.S. Mickey is back...

That is a great opportunity. I don't know if I would've had the patience to deal with the death of an imaginary friend. My kids just have lots of imaginary animals. Now that we have a bunny I haven't heard much about the imaginary ones... maybe they've gone the way of the earth too... oh well :)
